• Background Information. 814 Elizabeth Meinill first married John lord Darcy, and second, Peter de Mauley le Asisme. She died 42 Edward III, leaving Phillip Darcy, her son and heir, aged fifteen, whose great-grandson Phillip left two daughters and coheirs. They were Elizabeth who married Sir James Strangeways; and Margaret who married Sir John Coniers. Elizabeth also had a son named Peter de Mauley by her husband of the same name.

• Background Information. 141 Elizabeth, de jure, according to modern doctrine, Baroness Meinill, daughter and heir, born 15 Oct 1331 at Whorlton, and baptized there. On 15 Feb 1341/2 William Fraunk was appointed to seize her body, wherever he could find her, and keep her in custody until the King, to whom her marriage belonged, should give order. Her marriage had been granted on the preceding 21 November, in consideration of his father's good service and his own in staying by the King's side, to John Darcy le fitz, whom she married circa 1344/5. In 1346 the Prior and convent of Guisborough recognized the right of John Darcy le fitz and Elizabeth his wife as patrons of a moiety of the priory, according to the grant made by Bartholomew Fanacourt and Lucy his wife. On 10 Oct 1348 she and her husband were granted seisin of her father's lands held in chief in cos. Yorkshire and Northumberland, as she had proved her age, and her husband had done fealty for all the lands which Nicholas de Meinill had held in chief. John, Lord Darcy, died 5 Mar 1355/6. His widow married, before 18 Nov 1356, Sir Piers de le sisme Lord Mauley. She died 9 July 1368.

John Darcy married, 2ndly (disp. from the Bishop of Lincoln, 7 Jan. 1344/5), Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir Nicholas de Menille, of Whorlton in Cleveland, by Alice, daughter of Sir William de Ros, of Helmsley, co. York. The King took his fealty, and they had livery of her lands, 10 October 1348. On 22 April 1353 he received a pardon for all homicides, felonies, robberies, &c., for all oppressions by colour of any office he had held, for all trespasses of vert and venison, and of any consequent outlawries, and for all arrears and debts. He died 5 March 1355/6, at Notton, in Royston parish, co. York, and was buried in Guisborough Priory. His widow, the King having taken her homage and fealty, had livery of Whorlton, &c., 1 May, and her dower was ordered to be assigned, 4 July 1356. She married, before 18 November 1356 (pardon for marrying without Iic., 30 Oct. 1357), as 1st wife, Sir Piers de Mauley, le sisme, of Mulgrave, co. York. Her dower was again ordered to be assigned, 30 October 1357 and 20 June 1358. She, who was born 15 October 1331, at Whorlton, and bap. there, 19 July 1368, aged 36. He died 19 or 20 March 1382/3. Will, directing his burial to be in the Church of the Friars Minors at Doncaster, dated at his manor of Burgh near Watton, co. York, 8 March 1381/2.
