• Dates & Events. 252 Juan de Archuleta II, presumably the son of the preceding Juan, was thirty-eight years old in 1664 and a resident of La Cañada. His wife was María Luján, a daughter of Juan Luján. As a Rio Arriba leader, he was a sort of lackey to Governor Peñalosa. Before this, in 1661, he had acted in the same capacity to Governor Mendizábal. Around this time, or later, he was sent to the bison plains to plains to bring the Taos Indians, who had fled from their pueblo.
