Angela was a small child when she journeyed from Mexico City into New Mexico with her father in 1693 as part of the Vargas resettlement. Angela Teresa Vallejo González was born in México City and was described as having a dark complexion, big eyes and forehead, and a thick nose.

Luisa Varela married, as her first husband, Miguel Lucero. Her second husband was Bartolomé Romero, and that they had a son, Matías, who married Angela Vallejo, and a daughter, Juana, who became the wife of Juan de Ribera.
