According to the Authors of "The Real Identity of Juan Montaño - A Proof Summary," the two children, Juan and Antonio, of Juan Antonio Montaño de Sotomayor and Ysabel Jorge de Vera, are actually the same person, not brothers.

19 Apr 1682: baptized Antonio, legitimate son of Antonio de Sotomayor Montaño and doña Ysabel Gorge de Vera. Godparents: Alonso Garcia [de Noriega II] el Mozo and Ana Jorge de Vera, his wife.

Juan Montaño was also know as "el Cuate." he married Juana Gallegos, sister to Joaquín Gallegos. They had two children, Quiteria, born 23 Jan 1729, and Nicolás. When their mother died died on 6 Mar 1729, two months after Quiteria's death, the children must have been reared by theTomás García family, since both bore this name up to the time of their marriage, but reverted to Montaña after that time. Both were married on the same day, 15 Aug 1734. Nicolás to a Quiteria Romero, and his siter Quiteria to Andrés Martín Serrano.
