• Background Information. 954 According to Cyril Hart's article titled "William Malet and his Family," in Anglo-Norman Studies XIX: Proceedings of the Battle Conference 1996, pp. 163-164, Robert Malet, son of William Malet and Esilia, was the uncle of Countess Lucy. She brings up Datharine Keats-Rohan's paper on the Countess Lucy where Keats-Rohan claims that 'no doubt' that Countess Lucy was indeed the daughter of Robert Malet's sister by marriage to Thoraldr, the Sheriff of Lincoln. Hart considers the possibility that this daughter William Malet and sister of Robert was the one child of William's that we know of, Beatrix Malet. She places Thoaldr of Bucknall, Sheriff of Lincoln as Beatrix's first husband and William, vicomté of Arques as Beatrix's second husband. During Lucy's third marriage, the honor of Eye which was lost by William Malet II in 1110, was sought by Lucy's family.
Daughter married Thorold of Mercia Sheriff of Lincoln. (Thorold of Mercia Sheriff of Lincoln was born about 955 in Mercia, England.)
