Hugh Fitz Baldric "held of the king," the manor of Sourth Warborough, at the time of the Domesday Survey. This manor was passed on to his daughter on her marriage to Guy de Craon, and was held in succession by his son, Alan, then grandson, Maurice and great-grandson, Guy de Croan. The manor then passed on his daughter Petronilla, was first married to William de Longchamp, secondly to Henry de Mara, and thirdly to Oliver de Vaux, and held the manor jointly with her respective husbands until her death in 1280. At the time of Petronilla's death, the manor passed on to the son of her first marriage, Henry de Longchamp.

In the first mail Mr Channing wrote "At domesday Kirton was eld by Guy de Craon. I don't know when it left this family.........." The following related to other holdings of the Craon's may assist.

The descendents of Guy de Craon can be identified from the references below: all taken from A History of the villages of Aisthorpe and Thorpe in the Fallows by CW Foster MA, Canon of Lincoln, pub. JW Ruddock and Sons 1927.

Page 34 "William of Saleby, or William of Hainton or William Hacon or William son of Hacon (sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1130 or 1133).. William also held a knight's fee in Saleby and Thoresthorp of Alan of Craon in the time of Henry IV (footnote 4, The tenement was returned by Maurice de Craon in 1166, as belonging to his ancient fief, that is from a time earlier than the death of Henry I in 1135 (Red Book of the Exchequer, I 384)) as is proved by the following charter: Morice de Creon to all his men, French and English, greeting. Know ye that I have given and granted to Thomas, son of William in fee and inheritance to himself and his heirs, the whole land which his father William held of my father and of me, to wit in Salebia and in Thoresthorp : he and his heirs to hold of me and of my heirs by the service of one knight.
Witnesses: Guy my son, Clarice my wife, Ralph de Creon, William de Bellind', Lambert de Muleton, Bodin de Fenne, Hog de Sarz, Herbert the clerk, Brictmer my man, Richard Gifferd, Simon son of William, Ralf Camberl (fn5 The Genealogist, new series, xviii 163, where the original text is printed) The charter may be dated about 1151-55 for William son of Hacon was alive circa 1150 and Alan de Craon was probably dead in 1155 (fn6 At that date it is his son Maurice, and not he himself who appears in the Pipe Roll (The Great Rolls of the Pipe 2-4 Hen II, pp25, 84, 137-8)

C5 Sir Thomas of Woodthorpe knight. No document has been found in which he is specifically mentioned as the son of Alan; but the evidence of his parentage is sufficient. .. In 1212 Thomas held half a knight's fee in the wapentake of Calcewath, namely in Woodthorpe (Wdetorp) [and elsewhere] of Oliver de Vaux (de Vas) who held it of the king in chief of the honour of Craon (Crune) (fn6 Book of Fees I, 161)

The above appears to show the Chief tenancies being passed through the de Craon family until it passed to the de Vaux family through the marriage of Petronilla de Craon to Oliver de Vaux. I hope this may be of some assistance.
Best regards,
Blair

Alan married Muriel de Beauchamp, daughter of Robert de Beauchamp and Unknown. (Muriel de Beauchamp was born about 1151 in Somerset, England.)
