• Background Information: 800 Hugh Fitz Baldric "held of the king," the manor of Sourth Warborough, at the time of the Domesday Survey. This manor was passed on to his daughter on her marriage to Guy de Craon, and was held in succession by his son, Alan, then grandson, Maurice and great-grandson, Guy de Croan. The manor then passed on his daughter Petronilla, was first married to William de Longchamp, secondly to Henry de Mara, and thirdly to Oliver de Vaux, and held the manor jointly with her respective husbands until her death in 1280. At the time of Petronilla's death, the manor passed on to the son of her first marriage, Henry de Longchamp.

• Web Reference: Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands Maurice de Craon was the son Alain de Craon and his wife Muriel de Beauchamp. "Ingulph's Chronicle of the Abbey of Croyland records that "Alan de Croun…with Muriel his wife and Maurice his eldest son and Matilda their eldest daughter" visited Croyland (dated to 1114) [ Ingulph's Chronicle, p. 245]. Murice married a woman named Clarice, of unknown parentage. "A genealogy of the founders of Freston Priory records that "monsieur Maurice de Croune", son of "monsieur Alan de Croune le primer foundeur de Friston et Muriele sa femme", married "Clarice" [Dugdale Monasticon IV, Freston Priory, Lincolnshire, III, p. 126]."
