• Background Information. 1405 Sir Thomas de Stirkeland, knight son and heir of Walter married Mabel, daughter of Sir John de Bethom in 1405, in the fifthe year of King Henry the Sixth he agreed that his son should marry Douce, daughter of Nicholas de Croft. Sir Thomas held amongst his estates a third part of a knight's fee of Thomas Lumley, and represented Westmorland in Parliament.
Sir Thomas bore the first and most honored of the English Standards at the Battle of Agincourt, the banner of St. George. He made a will before he went to battle in France about twenty-four years before his death. He was at the siege Harfleur and at the taking of the City of Rouen, as well as attending the Coronation of King Henry the Sixth.
