John Lovel married Maud, eventually heir of her brother, Edward Burnell and daughter of Sir Philip Burnell of Acton Burnell, by Maud, sister of Richard Fitz Alan, Earl of Arundel, and daughter of John Fitz Alan. Maud was aged 25 in 1315. John Lovel died 24 June 1314, being killed at Bannockburn. His widow, Maud, was suing for her dower in February 1314/5. She married, before 4 Dember 1315, and without the King's licence, Sir Johnde Haudlo, who died 5 August 1346. Maud died before 17 May 1341.

The terre tenancy of North Cheriton was held by the Huse family. Ralph Huse in 1280, probably the owner of 1256 who had settled his estates on his son William, [Cal. Inq. p.m. ii, p. 178] and by Robert Burnell, bishop of Bath (d. 1292). [Cal. Inq. p.m. iii, p. 49] Joan of St. Martin, widow of William de Brayboeuf (d. 1284), in 1285 claimed one third in dower from Hugh Burnell, brother of Robert. [P.R.O., CP 40/60, rot. 116; Cal. Inq. p.m. ii, p. 310; S.R.S. iii. 26.] Robert's heir was Hugh's son Philip (d. 1294) [Cal. Inq. p.m. iii, pp. 49, 120-5] who was succeeded by his son Edward (d. 1315). [Ibid. v, p. 394] Edward's heir was his sister Maud, wife successively of John Lovel (d. 1314) and Sir John Haudlo (d. 1346). [S.R.S. extra ser. 396; Cal. Inq. p.m. viii, p. 495; Cal. Maud married Sir John 2nd Baron Lovel, son of John 1st Baron Lovel and Joan de Ros.141 (Sir John 2nd Baron Lovel was born in 1288 in Titchmarsh, Thrapston, Northamptonshire, England and died on 24 Jun 1314 in Battle of Bannockburn, Stirling, Scotland.)
