From The Heywood History - John Heywood of Concord, Massachusetts complied by Frieda Heywood Massara:
John Heywood came to America from Stepney Parish, England at the age of 22. He came on the ship Planter and arrived the 22nd of March, 1634.

From Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine By Henry Sweetser Burrage, Albert Roscoe Stubbs, p. 284:

James and John Heywood, both about twenty-two years old, presumably brothers, came together in the ship Planter in 1635. They were both certified from Stepney parish, London. James Heywood settled in Charlestown and Woburn, where he died on 20 Nov 1642.

John Heywood of Concord, Massachusetts married Rebecca Atkinson, daughter of Thomas and Susanna Atkinson. Wife, Rebecca, died in Concord on 5 Auf 1665. At this time, he married his second wife, 30 Nov 1665, Sarah Simonds, who died 19 Sep 1692. John Heywood died in Concord, 17 Jul 1700/01.

In 1670, the selectmen of Concord requested that John Heywood might be allowed "to keep a house of entertainment for strangers for nights lodging, beer and sider," also that Robert Meriam might be impowered "to sell wine and strong water to those that are sick or weeke & stand in need of our owne towne, & stranger that want . . ." Two years later, John Heywood renewed his license, and had liberty granted him "to retaile strong waters to travellers & sicke persons," upon giving a bond.

John Heywood was a Constable at Concord in 1676, which was an important office in the early days in that centry. John and Rebecca Heywood had five children.

John Heywood settled in Concord, Massachusetts, and was probably born in London, England, about 1620. He married Rebecca Atkinson, daughter of Thomas Atkinson. She was probably not his first wife unless his age is estimated incorrectly. Rebecca died in 1665. He married next, Sarah Simonds, on 5 Aug 1665. His last wife who outlived him was named Pricilla. John Heywood was admitted a freeman in 1670 in Concord.

John Heywood, Concord; married 1656, Rebecca, daughter of Thomas Atkinson, who died 1665; children Rebecca, b. 1657, died son after; Rebecca, again, 1660; John, 1662; Benoni, 1665, died within a few days. Before the end of that year, he married Sarah Symonds, had by here several daughters, and William, 1674; was freeman, 1670, and died 1707.
