• Background Information. 713 Sir William de Hooton (Houghton), son and heir of Henry de Hooton (Houghton). He lived during the reign of Edward III (1327-1377). He died 14 Sep 1396, and his post mortem inquisition took place on 20 Richard II. He occurs in the Plea Rolls, 1 Richard II, as being grantee of the king, of letters of protection, 21 Mar 1377, because he was going abroad on the king's service in the retinue of Sir William Trussell, knight. Sir William was most likely knighted in France. His wife was Katherine Torond, daughter and heiress of Henry Torond, and she was called a widow in 6 Henry VI (1427-1428). Their only child was Margaret or Margery who married Sir William Stanley.
