• Background Information. 917 According to the most accepted pedigrees of the Bunbury, their first ancestor of that name was one of the descendants in the male line of St. Pierres of Normandy. The St. Pierres are said to have borne the arms with Argent, a bend Sable, and this is the foundation of the somewhat later Bunbury arms, Argent, on a bend Sable, three chess-rooks of the first. • Background Information. 848 Henry de Bunbury, the first lord of Bunbury, was living during the reign of King Stephen and had a brother named David. He was succeeded by his son named William, who was in turn succeeded by his son named Humphrey. Humphrey had two daughters, Ameria and Joan, who, at the time of their father's death, were not yet of age. They were in the custody of Robert Patrick, who was very likely their uncle. When they came of age, Ameria's portion went to the Patrick family, and Joan's went to her kinsman, Alexander de Bunsbury, the great grandson of David, brother of Henry.
