The Topographer and Genealogists, 1853, Vol. II, p. 125-128, shows this Robert Tregoz as the brother of William, while Cockney's Complete Peerage Vol. XIIB, p. 17, gives this Robert as the son of William, rather than brother.

Robert de Tregoz, feudal lord and sheriff of Wiltshire, in 3 Richard I, and in three years afterwards, was in an expedition into Normandy. He married Sibel, daughter of Robert de Ewyas, and in 7 John, upon collecting the scutage of that king's reign, answered thrity-eight marks for nineteen kinights' fees, belonging to the honor of the his father-in-law, Robert de Eways.

Robert de Tregoz, Geoffrey's grandson, raised his house into importance by his marriage to Sybil, the heiress of Robert Lord Ewyas. he gained the castle and the hornor of the Harold Eways in Herefordshire, and Lydiard. He took part against Henry II, with his rebellious sons. he was Sheriff of Wilts under Coeur-de Lion, and greatly trusted and often emplyed in both Normandy and England by King John. The eledest of his three sons died, and another Robert whose father was the second son of Geoffrey succeeded. (This Robert is shown as the son of Robert by Weis and Burke.)

Robert de Tregoz, most likely the son of William de Tregoz, may also have been the man of that name who was a partisan of the young King Henry,, eldest son of Henry II, in 1173, and attested his charters in 1175. Robert was active in Normandy during the reigns of Richard I and John. He was with the King ther in 1190, and during the years 1194-1199, being called the King's Steward in 1194. He was baliff of the Cotentin in 1195 and 1197, and under John.

An agreement made between King Richard and the Count of Flanders in 1197, was witnessed by Robert. He was warden of the castles of Gavray, Neaufle and Similly, and custodian of the lands of Simon de Pevilene. In Nov 1204, he went on royal buiness to Flanders. He remained faithful to the English Crown after 1204. Robert went to the continent on royal buiness with William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke in the spring of 1205. He was also active in england, holding many offices during the reign of Richard I. The castle of Salisbury was in his care, 1190-94, and agin in 1198 and 1199. He was keeper of the royal houses at Clerdon, 1190-1193, and was sheriff of Wiltshire in 1191. He farmed Gastard, in Corsham, Wilts., 1191-1194, was granted money from Warminster in 1193, and farmed the lands of Geoffrey Hose in Wiltshire, 1197-1200. He farmed Bristol, 1196-1199. Robert answered for lands of Alan de Hairun in 1200, was granted estates, in payment of the King's debts to him, at Pencombe, Herefordshire, in 1205, and in the following year, he received the manor of Chelworth, Somersetshire.

Robert married, in about 1198, Sibyl, daughter and heir of Robert d'Ewyas, lord of Ewyas Harold, Herefordshire, by Pernel or Petronilla, who was living, 28 Oct 1204. Robert died some time before 29 Apr 1215. Sibyl married as her second husband sometime before 13 Feb 1216/17, Roger, son of Walter de Clifford, of Clifford Castle, Herefordshire. She died shortly before Jul 1236.

Sir Robert de Tregoze, "the great man of the family, founded it most important branch ; and this because he acquired immense wealth by his marriage. He took to wife Sibilla, daugher and heiress of Robert de Ewyas, Lord Ewyas, of Harold Ewyas, in Herefordshire ; and in 9 Richard I (Easter Term) had a suit with Hermenus de Braton for the advowson of Braton church in Norfolk, part of her vast inheritance. Bit it appears, that though duly married, a strange contest arose in 11 John regarding her ; when, in Easter Term, William de Newmarket was summoned to show by what right he claimed to wife her who was Robert Tregoz's wife ; for it appears that Richard I had given her to Tregoz in marriage. Whereupon Newmarket came and said that he had married her in the time of Richard the First by gift of Robert de Ewyas her father. It is very certain, however, that Tregoz had sufficient power to retain the heiress ; for in 13 John, Michaelmas Term, we find 'Robert de Tregoze and Sibilla his wife' impleading Ralph de St. Maur for land in Bren, in Somersetshire, the right of the said Sibilla; and in Trin. Term, 14 John, they recovered the said lands against St. Maur. " Sibilla de Ewyas "brought immense domains, including the castle of Ewyas Harold in Herefordshire, into the Tregoze family.

"Meanwhile Sir Robert de Tregoze was High Sheriff of Wilts 3 Richard I; and in three years after was engaged in the expedition made into Normandy. In 1 John (1200), he gave the King 200 marks in silver to have granted to him the wardship of the heir and lands of Geoffry Hose; and in 7 John (1206), on collecting the scutage of the King's reign, answered thirty-eight marks for nineteen knight's fees belonging to the honour of Robert de Ewyas his father in law. He also held one knight's fee in Irchingfield; but died about the year 1212."

Robert married Sibyl de Ewyas, daughter of Sir Robert de Ewyas Lord of Ewyas Harold and Petronilla ^141,160,723.^,829 (Sibyl de Ewyas was born about 1175 in Ewyas Harold, Herefordshire, England and died Shortly before 1 Jul 1236 in England ^141,160.)
