~Cokayne's Complete Peerage (Stanley), p. 247 mentions that "he is said to have married Mabel, daughter of Sir James Hawkset of Stourton Parva, but note says there is no authority for this. 141
~Ormerod's History of Cheshire, Stanley of Hooton Pedigree, p. 415, also has John marrying Mabel the daughter of sir James de Hausket 713
~Medieval Ancestors of Robert Abell, p. 225, states that no such family as the Hawskets were associated with the Stanleys at the time. Boyer further adds that W. Ferguson Irvine in Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, Vol. CV, p. 45, states a charter dated in Sefton, Lancashire, 13 Feb 1310 that proves John's father endowed him with the manors of Stanlegh and Over Elkeston in Staffordshire, and named John's wife as Emma, who man have been the duaghter of Walter Molyneux or of Sir Robert Lathom. 721
