~Cockayne's Complete Peerage, (AUDLEY. p.338), in note (a), says Hugh was the 5th son and that his mother, Ela gave him her manor in Stratton immediately after his father's death. ¹⁴¹

Hugh de Audley, a cadet of the Barons of Audley of Heleigh Castle, was born about 1267 and likely died at Wallingford Castle, between Nov 1325 and Mar 1325/26, while a prisoner, his title having been forfeited by attainder.

He married before 7 Jan 1293, probably in 1288, as her second husband, Isolde de Mortimer, who was the daughter of Edmund de Mortimer of Wigmore by a marriage earlier than his to Margaret de Fiennes, and widown of Sir Walter de Balun of Much Marcle in Herefordshire.

He obtained from his mother, son after her husband's death in the first year of the reign of Edward I (1272/73), a reversionary grant of Stratton Sudley, Oxon, which had been her inheritance. he also held Marcle Audley.

He was in the Franch wars from 1294, and was a prisoner in France 2 Apr 1299. He served in the Scottish wars from 1299-1302 and in 1313, was in Gascony in 1304/05, served as Justice in North Wales in 1306, and as Governor of Montgomery Castle in 1309. At one time he was Ambassador to France.

He was summoned to Parliament 15 May 14 Edward II (1322). He participated in the rebellion of the Earl of Lancaster in 1321/22, but surrendered before the battle of Boroughbridge was fought on 16 Mar 1321/22, and was confined at Wallingford Castle.

Hugh married Isolde de Mortimer, daughter of Sir Edmund de Mortimer Baron, Mortimer, 7th Baron Mortimer of Wigmore and Unknown. ^141,721 (Isolde de Mortimer was born in Wigmore, England and died in 1338 in Audley, Staffordshire, England ¹⁶⁰.)
