Nicolás de Aguilar was a native of Yurirapundara, Michoacán, and the son of Pedro de Aguilar, deceased and Ysabel de Villagómez, native of the same village. His maternal grandparents were Fernando de Villagómez, an original Conquistador of Michoacán Province, and Luisa Pérez.
