• Background Information. 869 On the payment and doing homage, Pier, the second, had livery of his father's lands. As with his father, he was a favorite of Henry III, King of England. In 23 Henry III, he was "officiating at the font, as sponsor to Edward, the eldest son of the King, and ultimately King of England, bearing the appellation of Edward I. [Bank's Extinct Peerage, vol. ii. p.342] Pier, the second, married Joan, daughter of Peter de Brus, of Skelton, and he was succeeded by his son, also named Pier de Maulay.

Piers de Mauley's marriage to Joan, eldest daughter of Piers de Brus recieved the King's approval on 27 Sep 1237. At the same time, his sister's marriage contract with the brother, the son an heir of Piers de Brus and his wife Hilary, of his future wife was also approved. He was underage at the time of his father's death, and his father's lands were granted to Gerard la Grue on 24 May 1242, for payment of 500 marks. He did homage to the King for all his father's land on 15 Oct 1247. On 1 Oct 1253, he had letters of protect while on the King's service in gascony.
