Sebastián González is first mentioned in 1626 as an Alférez of Portugese birth. He said he was forty years old in 1632, a resident of Santa Fé, and father-in-law of Diego García, brother of Juan García [Holgado]. He was one of the four Regents of New Mexico in 1642, when he gave his age as forty-five. His wife was Isabel Bernal, daughter of Juan Griego and Pascuala Bernal. She and her family did not get along very well with her brother-in-law Domingo González founder of the Lobón group.

To all appearances, the children of this family were Diego, Antonio, and Juan, all known as "González Bernal"; and also their sister, name now known, who was married to Diego García. Though first cousins to their González Lobón family, they formed a distinct clan, identified for generations with that of "los Griegos."
