• Background Information. 122 John de Stanley, son and heir of his father by Isabel Lathom, was granted, 1 Feb 1413/14, for life the office of Steward of Macclesfield to hold as his father John de Stanley, knight had held them. On 14 Feb 1414/15, he was a party, as lord of Man, to the general truce with the King of France. He is said to have married Isabel, daughter of Sir John and sister of Sir William de Haryngton He died 27 Nov. 1437.

• Background Information. 599 Sir John Stanley, of Lathom Knowsley, Lancashire, Lord of the Ise of Man, Knight of the Shire for Lancashire, 1413, 1414, Steard of Macclesfield, Just of Chester, Sheriff of Angless, Steward of the Household for Henry IV, son and heir, born about 1386, married before 1405, Elizabeth Harington, daughter of Sir Nicholas Harington, by his first wife, Isabel, daughter and heiress of Sir William English. They had three sons, Sir Thomas, Knight of the Garter & first Lord Stanley; Richard, Archdeacon of Chester; Edward, Archdeacon of Chester; Alice, wife of Tomas Dutton & John Wolton; and Isabel, wife of John Warren. In 1414, Sir John Stanley and his wife Elizabeth, obtained a papal indult to choose their confessor. He fought in the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 with eight men-at-arms and 24 archers. He was present at the capture of Rouen in Aug 1418.
