Sir Thomas de Lathom apparently married twice. One of his wives was Johanna, daughter of Sir Hugh Venables, baron of Kinderton. They had two children, Isabel and Thomas. His widow, Joane, married Roger de Fazackerley after Sir Thomas died.

Sir Thomas de Lathom of Lathom, Knight, son and heir, made settlement of Lathom, 49 Edward III, and died 6 Richard III (1382). From the Inquisition of 1383, it appears that he married Isabel, daughter of Roger de Pilkington; and from a later Inquisition of 6 and 8 March 1385, it appears that he married a second wife, Jane, daughter of Hugh Venables of Kinderton. The same Inquisition states that Sir Thomas was imbecile for three months before his death, on which event his widow Jane, then enceinte, sent his body for burial at Buscough Priory, without priest or other attendance and married her previous paramour, Roger Fazackerley, in conjuction with whom she claime dower on Wrightington, which was put to award in 7 Richard II.

The issue of Sir Thomas were Thomas, son and heir, Edward and Isabella, afterwards Lady Stanley, despite the Pedigrees of Herald's College which gives their mother's name as Jane Venables, most likely the children by Isabella de Pilkington.

Sir Thomas de Lathom, Knight, married Joan Venables, daughter of Sir Hugh III Venables, of Kinderton, Cheshire, by his second wife, Katherine. They had two sons, Thomas and Edward, as well as three (Richardson says three daughters, yet lists four) daughters, Margaret, Isabel, Cecily and Katherine.

Sir Thomas de Lathom, the younger, succeeded his father in 1370. He made an enfeoffment of his estates in 1376 [Final Conc. ii, 190]. He paid his quota of the aid to make the duke of Lancaster's son a knight in 1378 [Harl. MS. 2085, fol. 421]. Two years later he was pardoned certain offences committed within the forest of West Derby, Joan his wife and Edward their son being included in the grant [Dep. Keeper's Rep. xliii, App. 1, n. 3]. His wife Joan was daughter of Hugh Venables of Kinderton [Dods. MSS. lxxxvii, 10, 11], and his children were Thomas, Edward, Isabel, Margaret, and Katherine. He died at the beginning of 1382, having been lord of Lathom for twelve years [The writ of Diem clausit extr. was issued 21 Mar. 1381'962; Lancs. Inq. p.m. (Chet. Soc.) i, 18'9620].

His son and heir Thomas had a shorter tenure, dying about eighteen months afterwards; his heiress was a daughter Ellen, born two months after his death [the writ of Diem clausit extr. was issued 1 Feb. 1383'964; Lancs. Inq. (Chet. Soc.), i, 10, 11, 17, 20]. The widow afterwards married Sir John de Dalton [Lancs. Inq. (Chet. Soc.), i, 20]. The heiress became a ward to the duke of Lancaster; she was still living in 1387, but died before the end of 1390, when the duke ordered John de Audlem and Richard de Longbarrow to continue in possession until further orders [Lancs. Inq. (Chet. Soc.), i, 20, 21].

After her death the Lathom manors reverted to the younger children of Sir Thomas, and Edward having died, Sir John Stanley received them in right of his wife Isabel [ibid. 21].

Thomas married Joane Venables, daughter of Sir Hugh de Venables 10th Baron of Kinderton and Katherine Houghton.⁹²⁰ (Joane Venables was born about 1330 in Kinderton, Chester, England.)
