Information about this person:
• Background Information. 755 His parentage is stated in Chronicon Sancti Michćlis, monasterii in pago Virdunensi [9, MGH SS IV, p. 82] as "Theodoricus" son of "Frederico," and "Adalberonem filium Beatricis nobilissimć ductricis, matris Theoderici ducis" in the Gesta Episcoporum Virdunensium, [continuatio 5, MGH SS IV, p. 47]. He succeeded his father in 978 while underage and his mother was the regency until 978. He was captured by Lothaire, King of France in 985, but released him later that year after the duke's mother and brother, Hugues capet intervened. He married Richilde, who may have been Richilde von Bliesgau, daughter of Folmar Graf von Bliegau and his wife Berthe. The relationship is suggested by the granchise granted in 1076 by Pibon Bishop of Toul to the chapel in the châ of Amance, requested by Sophie de Bar, granddaughter of Duke Thierry I, which specifies that the castle belonged to her grandfather who inherited from Graf Folmar. [Lesort, A. (1909) Chronique et chartes de l'abbaye de Saint-Mihiel, Mettensia 27 (Paris), no. 39, p. 153, quoted in Poull (1994), p. 20, and no. 43 and 44, pp. 166-71, cited in Poull (1994), p. 76.] This suggests that Duke Thierry was the son-in-law of Graf Folmar. ~From Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands
Thierry married Richilde de Bliesgau.
