Hugh de Cotton
- Born: Rudheath, Cheshire, England
- Marriage: Isabell de Heyton 713
General Notes:
~George Ormerod's The History of County Palatine and City of Chester, Vol III, pg. 414, the Cotton of Combermere Pedigree shows Hugh de Coton to be the son of Alan de Coton, rather than the brother of Alan, as shown in Boyer'sAncestors of Robert Abell, , pg. 69. In both sources, Hugh's wife is Isabell, daughter and heir to Thomas de Heyton (Boyer spells it Hayton). The Abell family in America : Robert Abell of Rehoboth, Mass., his English Ancestry and his Descendants, p. 36, gives Hugh de Coton as the son of Alan and heir to his brother Alan. This source also shows Hugh married to Isabell, daughter and heir of Thomas de Heyton. Ormerod lists this Hugh and Isabella de Heyton's children as Nicholas de Coton who married Katherine, sister of Richard Hacklett and Hudh de Coton, his second son. Boyer also lists another son, Richard, as brother of Hugh, son of Hugh and Isabell de Heyton whereas Ormerod shows Richard to be son of Hugh, rather than his brother. The Abell family in America : Robert Abell of Rehoboth, Mass., his English Ancestry and his Descendants, p. 36, agree with Ormerod. 131,713,721
