• Background Information. 763 Piers de Legh was the third husband of Margaret Danyers. She was then the widown of Sir John Savage, and have been previously married to Sir John de Radclyffe.
King Richard II, in the twenty-first year of his reign, granted Piers and his wife Margaret, lands in Hanley, in the forest of Macclesfield, later known as the part of Lyme. Piers de Legh was beheaded at Chester in 1399, having taken part with the king against the duke of Lancaster, who soon took possession of the throne.
Piers de legh and Margaret had, besides a daughter, two son, Sir Piers and John. Sir Piers was married to Joan, daughter and heiress of Sir Gilberts de Haydock.
