~An Edition of the Cartulary of Burscough Priory, p. 73 In 1374 Margery, daughter of John of Walton, formerly wife of Thurstan of Northleigh, put in her claim to the manor of Ulnes Walton and other properties. Sir Thurstan of Northlegh and wife Margery are mentioned in 1334.1527

• Background Information. 826 Alan de Windle granted to Master Adam de Walton the homage of Adam son of William de Pemberton, and this being transferred to Adam de Walton, lord of Walton le Dale, was by him granted to Thurstan de Northlegh in 1316; [Raines MSS. (Chet. Lib.), xxxviii, 509]. In 1292, Adam de Pemberton was nonsuited in a claim against Adam de Northlegh [Assize R. 408, m. 43]. In 1305 Adam de Pemberton claimed estovers as against Thurstan de Northlegh and Maud, the widow of Adam de Northlegh, and his claim was allowed [Abbrev. Plac. (Rec. Com.), 258b]. Adam de Pemberton acknowledged that Thurstan and Maud had a right to housebote and haybote without view of the forester, but they had cut down their wood beyond due measure, 93 oaks having been removed [Coram Rege R. 184, m. 53]. By a fine of 1321 7 messuages, 2 oxgangs and 37 acres of land and 5 acres of meadow in Pemberton were settled upon Thurstan de Northlegh and Margery his wife [Final Conc. ii, 40; see also ii, 33, 43]. Margery, widow of Thurstan de Northlegh, occurs in 1346 [Assize R. 1435, m. 31].

• Background Information. 834 Margery, wife of Thurstan de Northlegh, was named as the daughter of John de Walton of Ulneswalton in a Fine made 29 Edward I. In a schedual containing the names of those who had been distrained to homage to King Edward II, after the attainder of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, in 1322, under Penwortham - "Thurstanus de Northlegh qui ut de jure uxoris suæ tenet in Walton in Leylondshir ij carucatas terræ pro vta parte unius feodi militis." [Duchy of Lancaster, Knights' Fees, 1-3] The editor notes that Thurstan is frequently described in error as Adam de Norleigh [see Lanc. Inquisition, Chetham Society, xicix, p. 35, in notis]. Adam may have been the son and heir of Thurstand and Margery. They likely descended from the Cheshire family in Norley.
Final Concords of the County of Lancaster, Part III, p. 33
Thurstan married Margery Walton, daughter of John Fitz Warine de Walton and Unknown, before 1315.826 (Margery Walton was born in Ulneswalton and died after 1374 in Lancashire, England.)
