Hugh le Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, Hereditary Steward of the Household, and son and heir of his father. He along with his father were, June 1215, one of the twenty five guardians of the Magna Charta. He succeeded to the Earldom and the office of the Steward in 1221. He was in command against the Welsh in 1223. He married about 1212, Maude, 1st daughter of William Marshal, the Earl of Pembroke, by Isabel, daughter and heir of Richard de Clare, sometimes called Strongbow, Earl of Pembroke. He died shortly after his father in Feb 1224/1225. His widow, who became 5 Dec 1245, coheiress of her brother Anselme, the last Earl of Pembroke. She inherited the office of Marshal of England, which she surrendered to her son in 1248/49. She married before 13 Oct 1225, each as their second spouse, William de Warenne, ear of Subbey, who died 27 May 1240.

Hugh le Bigod was a Magna Charta Surety along with his father Roger le Bigod, He was the third Earl of Norfolk and Suffolk, and was born sometime before 1195. He was involved with the rebellious Barons from the beginning of the Magna Charta proceedings. He lived for only a few years after he succeeded to the title of Earl of Norfolk and Sullfok and his father's estates and honors. He succeded to these in 5 Henry III, and died four years later in Febrary 1224/24. He was married to Maud, a sister of a fellow Surety, William Marshall, and the eldest daughter of William Marshal, the Protector. In her right, Hugh acquired the Earldom of Pembroke, and in this rank bore the royal sceptre in the coronation of King Richard I.

Hulgh le Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, and along with his father a Magna Carta Surety. On Christmas 1220 he represented his father in claiming the Stewardship, and did homage on succession of his father on 2 Aug 1221. In 1222, he had a grant of a market at Dovercourt. He took part in the campaign against LLewelyn in the summer of 1223.

Hugh le Bigod probably married before Lent 1206, Maud, the eldest daughter of William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke, hereditary master Marshal of the Royal household, and Isabel, daughter and heir of Richard, second Earl of Pembroke. Maud, as senior coheir of her brother Walter, late Earl of Pembroke, was allowed to take in Jul 1246, the office of Marshal. After Hugh Bigod died, Maud Marshal married William de Warenne, Earl of Surrey, and styled herself Marshal of England, countess of Norfolk and Warenne.

The children of Hugh and Maud were, Roger le Bigod, Earl of Norfolk; Hugh, who was made Justiciar of England by the Barons and was father of Roger le Bigod, the 5th Earl of Norfolk and Sir Ralph; and possibly William, for a William, son of Hugh le Bigod, granted a rent to Reynold de Bungay, citizen of Long, whose grant of it to Bungay Priory was confirmed by Henry III in Mar 1234/35. Hugh's daughter, Isabella, first married Gilbert de Lacy, son and heir of Water de Lacy, Lord of Meath, who died in 1230, and married, as her second husband, Sir John Fitz Geoffrey, Justiciar of Ireland, who died in 1258.
