He took the side of the Barons against King John in 1217, and later made peace with the king. In 1226, he was a Justice Itinerant in Yorkshire, and in 1230, he was a Coronor for Yorkshire. • Background Information. 141 Marmaduke de Thweng, son and heir or Robert and Emma, was a surety in 1199 for Richard Malesbysse. In 1200, he acted in a lawsuit as an attorney of his overlord, Piers de Brus. In 1204, he was present when his sureties paid a fine and pledged themselves to restrain from causing a tumult. He was summoned to elect jurors in 1207, and served as one in 1208. He seems to have joined the northern barons in opposition to King John, for in 1217, he was mentioned as one of those who had made peace with the Crown. He is recorded as being appointed justice itinerant for 1221 to 1229, and until Aug 1230, he acted as coroner in Yorkshire. In that same year, he along with others, were ordered to take an oath to swear to arms at the time of King John. Marmaduke de thweng was alive on 23 Nov 1234, and the date of his death is not known.
