Information about this person:
• Background Information. 829 Walter was appointed governor of Hanley Castle in Worcester, in 17 King John, and was entrusted with the custody of the same shire in that turbulent year. Walter joined an insurrection of barons against the king, and all his lands were seized by the crown. He was then excommunicated, and later made peace with the king as well as soliciting & receiving absolution. At this time Henry III had succeeded to the throne, and he gained restitution of his castle at Worcester with his hereditary sheriffalty.
