William de Beauchamp was the nephew of the last Earl of Warwich by being the son and heir of William de Beauchamp who married Isabel, the only sister and heir to Earl William. Earl William died on 8 Jan 1267/68, at the age of thirty, which time William de Beauchamp became the Earl of Warwick.
He was joint commissoner 16 Oct 1270, in the trial between Llewellyn, Prince of Wales, and the Lords of Marches. He was Constable of Rockingham Caste in 1297, and a Counceillor of the Regency in Aug 1297 to March 1298. He was married to Maud, widow of Gerald de Furnival, of Sheffield, Yorkshire, sister and coheir (1297) of Richard Fitz John. William died 9 Jun 1298 at the age of 60. His widow died in 1300.

The Beauchamps were among those who came to England with William the Conqueror. Walter de Beauchamp or Bellocampo, a Norman, was granted the estates of Roger de Wygracestra and the shrievalty of Worcester, which Urso d'Abitot had held at the time of William I, whose daughter, Emeline, Walter married. Walter's son was William, who held the office of Dispensator to the King, and his great grandson, William de Beauchamp, married Isabella Mauduit, sister and heir of William Mauduit, Earl of Warwick.
"His will, dated morrow of the Epihany, 1268, bequeathed his body to be buried in the Friars Minors of Worcester, and ordered that a horse fully armed should be led behind the coffin. He left to Joan his daughter, 'Surcellam Sancti Wolstani' and a book of Lancelot; to William, his eldest son, the cup and horns of St. Hugh, and many small sums to various religious foundation, the largest, X marks, being left to the nuns of Cokehill."
