Richard, son and heir of Gerald, was the founder, during the reign of Stephen, of Combe-Abbey in Warwickshire. He was one of the witnesses in 12 Stephen to the convention between Stephen and Henry, Duke of Normandy, regarding the succession of the latter in the crown of England. Richard de Camville appears to have been a powerful lord during the reign of Henry II. He was one of the admirals in the expedition made by Richard I, King of England, into the Holy Land. He was subsequently the governor of Cyprus. He went, without permission from King Richard, to the siege of Acon, where he died.

Richard left four sons and a daughter:

Gerald, his son and heir

Walter, who left a son named Roger, whose children were: Matilda, who married Niegel de Moubray; Patronilla, married to Richard Curson; Matilda, married to Thomas de Astley and Alicia, married to Robert de Esseby.

Richard whose children were Richard and Isabella*, heiress of her brother, and married in 4 Richard I, Richard de Harcourt of Bosworth in Leicester. (* Isabella is referred to as the daughter of the father of this Richard, who died in the Siege of Acres in Palestine in the Victoria County History, A History of the County of Oxford: Volume XII, pp. 274-281)

William, youngest son who married Albreda, daughter and heiress of Geoffrey Marmion. Their children were Geoffrey, his successor; William, of Sekerton, co. Arwick, father of Thomas, whose grandson, Sir Gerard de Camville, of Arrow, co. Warwick, left a daughter and heiress named Elizabeth, who married Robert Durdett, ancestor of the Burdetts of Arrow, co. Warwick; and Thomas.

Matilda, married to William de Ros.

• Background Information. 1189
Before 1130 Henry I gave 'Stanton Harcourt: Manor to his second wife Queen Adela, who alienated it piecemeal, mostly after 1135. Before 1141 Adela gave to her kinswoman Millicent, wife of Robert Marmion, land in Stanton Harcourt and South Leigh worth £40, four fifths of the value in 1086. When Robert died c. 1144 the estate, later called 'Stanton Harcourt: Manor, passed to Millicent's second husband Richard de Camville, on whose death in 1176 it was seized by Henry II. It was held in custody by Richard Rufus until 1190, when Richard I restored it to Richard de Camville's son Richard, who died on crusade in 1191; it then passed to Robert de Harcourt of Bosworth (Leics.), who had married the elder Richard de Camville's daughter Isabel. Thereafter, apart from a brief period in the early 17th century, Stanton Harcourt descended in the main line of the English Harcourts, who made it their principal seat until the early 18th century.

• Background Information. 1188
By the mid 12th century the terre tenancy (Charlton Camville) was held by the Camville family. Gerard de Camville (fl. 1140) was followed by Richard (d. 1176). Richard was succeeded by his son Gerard (d. 1214), after whose death Charlton appears to have been seized by Hubert de Burgh. In 1217 it was restored to Gerard's widow Nichole de la Hay (d. 1230) and to her son Richard de Camville (d. 1226). Nichole was followed by Richard's daughter Idony (d. c. 1252) and by Idony's son William Longespée (d. 1257).
