Malcolm II, known as Canmore or "Bighhead," was crowned King of Scotland on 25 Apr 1058. He married Ingibiory, daughter of finn Arnasson of Vrjar, Jarl of Halland, by Bergljot, daughter of Halfdan Sigurdsson. There children were Duncan II; Malcolm, dead by 1094; and Donald, dead by 1085.

Malcolm's second wife was Margaret, the daughter of Edward the Atheling, son of Edmund II King of England and his wife Agatha of Hungary. Their children were Edward, who died on 16 Nov 1093, at Edwardsisle, near Jedburgh of wound he received at the Battle of Alnwick; King Edmund; King Edgar; Alexandar I; Edith (Ætheling), wife of Henry I, King of England; David I, King of Scotland; Ethelred, Lay Abbot of Dunkeld; Duncun, of whom little is known; and Mary, wife of Eustace II, comté de Boulogne.

Malcolm III Canmore, King of the Scots 1058 to 1093, was killed while besieging Ainwick Castle, 13 Nov 1093. He married, first, to Ingiborg, daughter of earl Finn Arnason, and the widow of Thorfil Sigurdson, Earl of Orkney. His second wife was Margaret, also called St. Margaret of Scotland, who was the daughter of Prince Edward, the Exile, and a descendant of Alfred the Great. They were the parents of David I, King of Scotland who married Maud of Huntingdon.

Máel "Ceannmore," meaning Malcolm the Great head or chief, was the eldest son of Duncan by his wife, a cousin of Siward, Earl of Northumberland. Ducan was the son of Crinan the Thane by his wife Bethoc, eldest daughter and heir of Malcolm II, King of Scots. He was born between 1061 and 1093. He led five raids into England, devastating the northern counties and bringing about a great invasion of his own country by William the Conqueror in 1072, and by his son Robert in 1080. In his last English raid, Malcolm was defeated and slain at Ainwick, 13 Nov 1093. He first married Ingibjorg, daughter of earl Finn Arnason, and widow of Thorfinn Sigurdson, Earl of Orkney. Children of Malcolm and Ingibjorg were:

Malcom Ceannmor married for a second time, at Dunfermline, 1068/9, Margaret (St. Margaret of Scotland), daughter of Edward Ætheling. She died 16 Nov 1093 at Edinburgh Castle, and was buried at Dunfermline. The children of Margaret and Malcolm were:

• Edward, wounded with his father at Ainwick, and died near Jedburgh 16 Nov 1093
• Edmund, Prince of Cumbria and afterwards monk; he died at Montague in Somersetshire
• Ethelred, Earl of Fife, and Abbot of Dunkeld, buried at Kilrimont

• Alexander, afterwards King Alexander I
• David, afterwards King
• Matilda, the good Queen Maud, was married to Henry I of England, 11 Nov. 1100, and died 1 May 1118, leaving a daughter, Matilda, who was married, first to Emperor Henry V, and second to Geoffrey Plantagenet, by whom she had a son, Henry II of England.
• Mary, was married in 1102 to Eustace, Count of Boulogne, and she died, 31 May 1116, leaving a daughter, Matilda, who married Stephen, King of England.

The Annals of Tigernach record that "Lulach rí Alban" was killed by "Mael-Coluimb, son of Donnchad" in 1058 [Annals of Tigernach II, p. 290]. The Chronicle of John of Fordun records that Malcolm recaptured his kingdom with the help of "Siward Earl of Northumberland" and killed "Machabeus" 5 Dec 1056 [John of Fordun (Skene), Book V, VII, p. 192]. The Annals of Ulster record that "Mael Coluim son of Donnchad, over-king of Scotland, and Edward his son, were killed by the French in Inber Alda in England " [Annals of Ulster, 1093.5, p. 529].

Máel married Ingibjörg, daughter of Finn Árnason and Bergliot Halfdansdatter.⁸⁷³ (Ingibjörg died before 1070.)

Máel next married Saint Margaret Atheling of England Queen Of Scots, daughter of Edward Ætheling of Wessex "the Outlaw" and Eadgyth of Hungary, in 1068 in Dunfermline Abbey, Fife, Scotland.
