He was Justice of the Forests, and drowned 6 Nov 1282 and was the son of Sir Roger de Clifford, of Tenbury, Justice of Wales and Justice of the Forest south of Trent, and a Crusader. 160

Roger de Clifford was renowned for his skill and magnanimity in the wars during the reigns of Henry III and Edward I. He died in his father's life time on St. Leonard's day 1283 in the Isle of Anglesey, where he was buried. He married Isabel, the eldest daughter and coheir of Robert de Vipoint, Lord of Westmoreland, and in her right held Brougham Castle in Westmoreland, part of which he built and repaired. He even inscribed in stone over the door of the inward gate, "This was made by Roger."

Roger de Clifford was drowned when crossing a bridge of boats near the Menai Straits. He was son of another Roger, a feudal Baron of Herefordshire, and Justice of the Forest South of Trent, Aug. 1265.
