• Background Information. 1171
From The Visitations of Cornwall, p. 2, Sir Renfry de Arundell, son of Humphrey de Arundell and his wife Joane Umbraville, was of Trefy [Ped. Fin. 52 Hen. III, No. 1 Dean and Chapter of Exeter]. He married Alice*, daughter and heir of Sir John de Lanherne. They were parents of Sir Ralph de Arundell.
*I've seen Alice de Lanherne given as the wife of Renfy de Arundell, son of Ralph rathern than as mother of Ralph. According to Arundell of Lanhern and Trerice From the Corwall Record Office on the U.K. National Archives, "In 1265 x 1268 Remfrey Arundell II married Alice, daughter and coheiress of John de Lanhern who had died by November 1256."
The pedigree given in the Visitation of the County of Corwall is given as follows. I didn't include the first four generations because I haven't found other supporting evidence of these generations.
Roger de Arundell, described in Domesday Book holding lands in Doreset & Somerset | Gilbert de Arundel=Rosamund, daughter and coheir of John de Novant | Richard de Arundell=Juliana | Humphry de Arundell took the lands of his uncle William Arundell and his son William in Cornwall, forfeited by rebellion, as next heir, 8 Feb 1216 pRot. Litt. Claus. 17 John, M 10]= Joane daughter of John de Umfraville | Sir Renfry de Arundell=Alice daughter of Sir John Laherne | Sir Ralph de Arundel=Eva, daughter of Sir Richard de Rape, alias de la Roche
