• Background Information. 141 Sir Thomas Darcy married, as his first wife, Dowsabel, daughter and heir of Sir Richard Tempest, of Giggleswick, In Ribblesdale, co. York, by Mabel, daughter of Walter Strickland, of Sizergh, Westmorland. She was living 1503.

• Background Information. 1227 Sir Ricahrd Tempest, of Stainforth, married Mabel, daughter of Walter Stickland, of Sizergh, as his second wife. Sir Richard Tempest of Stainforth was the son of Sir Robert Tempest (son of Sir Richard Tempest, of Bracewell, and Margaret, sister and co-heriess of Robert Stainforth), by Alice, daughter of John Lacy. Sir Richard was born about 1410, knighted by 1432, and dead before May, 1488.
Sir Richard Tempest founded a chantry at Giggleswick Church. With his second wife, Mabel Strickland, they had only one daughter, who was the first wife of Thomas, Lord Darcy.

• Background Information: Articles on the Tempest Family On Some Notes on Medieval English Genealogy. 1226 Sir Richard Tempest of Staynforth was a knight by 1432, witnessing a charter 8 June, 10 Henry VI from Lord Percy relating to the Hamerton chantry in Long Preston church [Hist: of Craven, p.124 (2 Ed.) copy of deed]. As Sir Richard Tempest of Staynforth knt he signed along with Sir John Tempest of Bracewell knt. Roger Tempest of Broughton esq: Sir William Everingham of Birkin and Richard Bank of Bank Newton, 27 June 1437, a bond for £400 to Sir Thomas Harrington knt [Lanc: plea: Ro: Lent, 3 Edward iii, m.5d].
Sir Richard married 2dly Mabel daughter of Walter Strickland of Sizergh co. Westm. esq: by his wife Douce, or Dousabel daughter of Nicholas Croft. Sir Thomas Strickland, her brother was co-Administrator of the goods of her husband Sir Richard Tempest, 28 Feb-ruary 1488-9 [York Reg:]. On 22 May 1488, Mabel, relict of Sir Richard Tempest of Giggleswick took vows of chastity etc. [Archbp: Rotherham's Reg: fo. 55]. In 1488, Dame Mabel Tempest was admitted to York Corpus Christi Guild [Surtees Soc: vol. 57, p.131]. Administration of the goods of Dame Mabel Tempest granted to George Darcy (her grandson) son and heir of Lord Darcy 25 May 1511 [York Reg:].
