• Background Information. 141 Robert de Thorpe, Lord Thorpe, son and heir, probably by 1st wife, born circa 1294, was sent as envoy, 16 Feb 1324/5, to James, King of Aragon, in order to arrange a marriage between the King's son Edward and the Infanta Iolanta; and on 23 June 1326 he was to go to Scotland concerning the truce. He was never summoned to Parliament.
Sir Robrt Thorpe married, before 1316, Beatrice, daughter of Thomas de Hengrave, by his 1st wife, Isabel. Sir Robert Thrope died 8 Apr 1330. Beatrice died 4 Jul 1361.

• Background Information. 1294 "Robert de Thorp," eldest son of Sir John de Thrope, "was above 30 years old" in 1323; "e married Beatrix, daughter of Sir Edmund de Hengrave, and died possessed of these manors in 1329, leaving a wife, and John de Thorp, his eldest son and heir, 15 years of age, and John de Clavering, his chief lord, was his guardian. Alice his grandmother was alive in 1325. In 1336, Lady Beatrix his mother, was patroness here and of Massingham-Parva, where she resided, and held NorthCreke manor in jointure."
