William I Bertram was Baron of Mitford in Northamptonshire during the reign of Keng Henry I, thus between 1100 and 1135. He married Hawys de Balliol, daughter of Guy de Balliol, first Baron of Bywell, who appears to have been suceeded by his nephew Bernard de Balliol [Hedley, Northumberland Families, 1:26] 722

William II was the son and heir of Roger I by Ada, his wife. Roger I was the son and heir of William I, founder of Brinkburn priory by Hawise, daughter of Guy Balliol, who gave her Stainton in free marriage.
