Sir Edward Courtenay, son of Hugh de Courtenay and Margaret de Bohun, daughter of Humphrey de Bohn VIII amd Elizabeth, daughter of Edward I and Eleanor of Castile, was born about 1331/2 and died between 2 Feb 1368 & 1 Apr 1271, of Godlington, married in or before 1346, Emeline Dawney, who died 28 Feb or 20 Mar 1371, daughter of Sir John Dawney (Dauney), knight and his wife Sybil Treverbin.

Sir John Dawney was the second son of Nicholas Dawney of Mudford Terry, Somerset, and his wife, Elizabeth. Dawney married Sybil Treverbyn, the daughter of Walter de Treverbyn of Treverbyn, Cornwall. They had one surviving child, a daughter Emeline or Emme, who married Sir Edward Courtenay, third son of Hugh Courtenay, 10th Earl of Devon, and by him had two sons, Edward and Hugh. Emme Dawney is said to have brought an estate consisting of 'fifteen large manors in Cornwall' to the Courtenay family.

John married Sybil de Treverbyn, daughter of Walter Treverbyn and Unknown ¹⁶⁰.^,1423 (Sybil de Treverbyn was born in Treverbyn, Cornwall, England and died in Sheviock, St. Peters, Cornwall, England.)
