Joan Champernoun, married by license dated 4 Feb 1538, Anthony Denny, Knight of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, second son of Edmund Denny, Knight of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, by his second wife, Mary, daughter and heiress of Robert Troutbeck, of Bridge Trafford, Plemonstall, Cheshire. Anthony Denny, was born 16 Jan 1500/1. Joan and Anthony Denny had five sons, Henry, Edward, Knt., Arthur, Charles and Edmund. They also had three daughters, Douglas (wife of John Dyve, Esq.), Mary, and Honora (wife of Thomas Wingfield). Sir Anthony Denny died at Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, 10 Sep 1549, and was buried at Cheshunt. His widow, Joan's will was proved 1553.
• Background Information. 1173 Henry Denny, eldest son of John, was father of William Denny, Esq., of Cheshunt, Hight Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 1480, who by Agnes his wife, had a son, Sir Edmond Denny, of Cheshunt, King's Remembrancer to Henry VII, and a Baron of the Exchequer, who was father of Sir Anthony.
Baron Denny married first Margaret, daughter of Ralph Leigh, Esq. M.P., of Stowell Surrey, and sister-in-law to Queen Catherine Howard's mother. His second wife, Sir Anthony's mother, was Mary, eldest daughter and co-heir of Robert Troutbeck, Esq., of Trafford, Cheshire, who was nephew to Thomas Stanley, Earl of Derby, and Margaret, his Countess, mother of King Henry VII, and was also great-grandson of Elizabeth Duchess of Norfolk, whose mother and father were great-grandchildren, one of King Edward I, and the other of his brother Edmond Plantagent, Earl of Lancaster. Mary Troutbeck, Lady Denny, was a cousin of two Queens of Henry VIII, namely, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard.

• Background Information. 1172,1228 Edmund Denny, eldest son of William, was constituted a baron of the exchequer 6 May 1514, and received the honor of Knighthood. He was settled at Cheshunt and died 22 Dec 1520. A monument was erected in his memeory in the church of St. Bennet, Paul's Wharf, London. By his las Will *, bearing the date 20 Jul 1519, and proved the following year, he directed his body be laid in that church, and twenty trentals of Masses should be said for his soul, and for the souls of his wives deceased, and those of William and Agnes, his parents.
Sir Edmund Denny married as his first wife, Margaret, daughter of Ralph Leigh, Esq. Sir Edmund and Lady Margaret had a son, John, who died in infancy, and Margaret, born in 1487, and died without issue. His first wife, Margaret, died 10 Sep 1487
Sir Edmund Denny married, as his second wife, Mary, daughter of Robert Troutbeck of Trafford Bridge, Co. Chester, by whom he had sixteen children, seven of them son and nine daughters. Mary, his second wife, died in 1506.
