Joan Champernoun, the widow of Sir James Chudleigh, was the wife of Sir John Courtenay. Joan was the daughter of Sir Richard Champernoun, of Modbury, Devon, by his 1st wife, Alice (descendant of Geoffrey Plantagenet), daughter of Thomas de Astley, Lord Astley. They had two sons, Sir Philip and Sir Humphrey. Sir John died before 1415 and Joan died in 1419.
