After the Conquest, Hugh, the son of Nicholas Dracote, was the lord Draycote. "Nicholas was the son of Philip, brother of William, the first baron of Wich Malbanc : for William, son of Hugh, son of the said first baron of Wich Malbanc, confirmes Dracote, Lees, Newton and Crewwall to Hugh, the son of Nicholas de Draycote, to hold of him by two parts of a knight's fee; and if he have contention for certain lands dying in Newton, the he is to hold it by half a knight's fee : this Hugh Dracote had issue sir Philip, who lived 5 Ric. I and had issue sir Richard, justice of Chester 23 Hen. III"

The first Draycote was Nicholas who lived at the manor of Draycott, but it was his son, Hugh de Draycote, who was granted the manors of Draycote, Cresswell, Newton and Leigh, and a salt vat in Wich Malbanc around 1150-1169. Hugh died sometime before 1184 and his successor was his son Philip.
