In the twelfth Century, if not earlier, the manors of Standish and Langtree belonged to the extensive Penwortham barony, which at that time was held by the Bussel family. Warine Bussel, Lord of Penwortham, held that barony about the middle of the twelfth century, and was living in 1186. Among his holdings were Standish, Langtree, Hoghton and many other manors in Lancashire which he divided up among his children.

Children of Warine Bussel:
Richard Bussell, Lord of Penwortham who flourished in 1150-1164, gave the two Standish and Langtree ploughlands to Richard Spileman who married the granters sister.

Daughter, m. Hamlet le Boteler, ancestors of the Hoghtons of Hoghton Tower, Lancashire, was granted two ploughlands in Heaton in Lonsdale and Eton.
