Sir Walter de Bromley Knight
- Born: Bromleigh, Staffordshire, England
- Marriage: Alicia de Burwardslegh 713,784
General Notes:
Ian Bromley in his book Bromely: A Midland Family History, pp. 15-16, discusses the different versions of the Bromlegh early beginnings. Ormerod, Vol. III, p. 371 suggests that Walter was the brother of Roger Burwardsely, and therefore the son of Philip de Burwardsley. In the Shropshire Visitation of 1623, there is a suggestion that Walterus de Bromleghe, Lord of Bromley, had married Alicia de Burwardsley, the sister and heiress of Roger Burwardsley, who died in 1243. Collin's Peerage of England states the same thing.
Ian Bromely points out that in Chetwyn's History of Pirehill Hundred (1696), Chetwyn supports a similar view, except that Walter is married to Margaria, the sister of Alice & Philip, and the daughter of Waryn de Burwardsley. The pedigree given by Chetwyn calls Warin de Burwardsley, Warin Fitz William, the son of William fitz Warin of Burwardsley (brother of Fulke fitz Warin of Shrops), who in turn is the son of Warin de Metz and Melette Peverel. 942
