Osborne de Bolebec, a noble Norman, in the time of Robert, father of William the bastard, had two distinguished son. One was named Osborne Gyffarde and the other was Walter (Gualtier of the Norman Chronicles) comté de Longueville, who assumed the surname Gyffarde. Walter acquired great renown in the armies of William the Conqueror, achieving several victories for Nomandy, in the war between that country and France. Walter and Osborne Gyffarde were among the foremost of William's staunch friends who joined him in the Conquest of England. Because of this, Walter obtained no less than one hundred and seven lordships in the conquered country and was made Earl of Buckingham.

Osbern de Bolebec, a noble Norman, Lord of Longueville in Normandy living at the time of Duke Robert the Magnificent, who was the father of William the Conqueror. Osbern married Avelia, third sister to Gunnora, who was the second wife of Richard the Fearless, Duke of Normandy.

There of the children of Osbern and Avelia, were: Walter, Count of Longville, who assumed the surname of Gyffarde and married the daughter of Flatel (Fleitol). He is called Walter Girrard the Elder in the histories of Ordericus Vitalis and William of Jumièges; and Osberne.

Osborne married Aveline, daughter of "Norman" father and Unknown. (Aveline was born about 995 in Pont-Audemer, Normandy, France.)
