• Background Information. 141 Aslen held two hides in Swinnerton, Staffordshire in 1086 from Robert de Stafford from whom he also held in North Rauceby, Lincolnshire. His heir, Robert Fitz Aelen, was either a son or a grandson.

• Background Information. 732 According to the Domesday Survey, the fee of Sulvertone (Swynnerton) was held of Robert de Stafford by on Aslen or Aelen in 1086. Aslen had an elder son named Aelen Fitz Aelen, who died without issue, and the family estates when then in the hands of the second son, Robert Fitz Aelen.

• Background Information. 1196 At the time of the Great Survey in 1086, Aslen held two hides in Sulvertone (i.e., Swynnerton) of Robert de Stafford. There were eight carucates of land there, of which one was held in demesne; and there were ten villeins and five boors who held six carucates. (The carucate not accounted for is doubtless Beech.) There were ten acres of pasture, and wood of one league in length and one in breadth. The value was 40s.
