• Background Information. 252 Juan de Ribera, thirty-three years old and married, was residing among the refugee colonists at Ysleta del Paso in 1685. He came to New Mexico with the reconquest in 1693, when he declared himself a native of New Mexico. His wife was Lusisa de Ocanto, and their son, Francisco married a Juana Romero at Alburquerque in 1710.
