John de Haydock was examined on the Scrope and Grosvenor trial when he was 64 years old, on 12 Sep 1386. He married, before 20 Nov 1357, Johanna, the daughter of Sir Thomas de Dutton, and widow of Richard, the eldest son of Sir William le Boteler. Richard and his wife, Johanna, had been endowed with one-third of the Boteler estates, which his widow, who was childless, carried to her second husband. Sir William le Boteler confirmed to John de Haydock and Joahhna Dutton, these possession by deed dated at "Wynqwick," 20 Nov 1357, with the seal of Robert de Moston, on the plea that he had not his own seal at hand. In 1366, John de Haydock made a settlement of his estates with successive entails, on his sons Gilbert, Thomas, Matthew (who at the age of 24, also gave evidence in the Scrope/Grosvenor trial) and John, with remained to his right heirs. John de Haydock died 12 Dec 1387, leaving besides his four sons, three daughters.

The heir to the Haydock manor was John de Haydock, who was in possession by 1358. He married Joan, daughter of Sir Thomas de Dutton, and died 12 December 1387, holding the moiety of the manor of Haydock and lands there of Sir John de Holland of Thorpe Watervill in socage by a rent of 17s.; holding also various lands in Newton, Golborne, and Bold. His son and heir Gilbert was thirty years of age.

John son of Gilbert de Haydock and Joan his wife occur in 1353 [Assize R. 435, m. 32], the widow of Richard le Boteler. William de Wigan, chaplain, regranted to John de Haydock and Joan his wife, daughter of Sir Thomas de Dutton, various lands in Newton, with remainders to the children of John and Joan, and then to Sir Lawrence de Dutton, and Anabel and Eleanor, sisters of John de Haydock [Raines, loc. cit. 165]. A grant by John son of Sir Robert de Langton names the children of John and Joan thus: Gilbert, Matthew, and Nicholas, Ellen, Emma, Agnes, and Philippa [ibid. 167].
