• Background Information. 730 Richard Pincerna called himself "le Butiller" during the reign of Henry II, and held a bovate of land and two tofts in Ribstan near Knaresborough. He married Beatrix, the daughter and heir of Matthew Vilars.
Under a writ from the crown, he was excused, along with nine other knights of the county, who had been present "in arms" for the king, a payment of eight knights' fees. Richard appears to have died in 23 Henry II (1176).
