Philip was the son of Jonathan Blair and Sarah Blume. On 4 Jul 1860, Jonathan Blair, at the age of 26, was farming on land and residing with his family in Harrison Township, Harrison County, Indiana. During this period of 1860 his ,Jonathan's household consisted of his wife, Sarah, who was age 28; his son Charles, age 6; and his daughter Viola, age 1. At that time, the family was living on the adjacent farm next to George Bruner (1824-1904) and his wife Elizabeth Rudy (1827-1903), who are also buried at the Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Sometime after the death of Jonathan's and Sarah's son Phillip, the family moved to the township of Washington, Harrison County, Indiana.
