• Background Information. 252 Baltasar Francisco de la Peña was a native of Zacatecas, and a soldier of Santa Fe in 1694, when he married Lucía Gutiérrez. His parents were Francisco Gabriel de la Peña and Manuela Gómez de Medina, deceased. He gave his age as twenty-three a couple of years after. Nothing more is known about him except that he later brought some boys, apparently nephews, from Mexico City to New Mexico, as shown further on.
