Sebastian Martín Serrano is the most famous of the Martín Serrano clan. He and his wife, María Luján, were still in Santa Fé in 1698, when he was twenty-seven. Within a few years, he moved north to the ancestral Río Arriba country. In 1714, he was Alcalde of Santa Cruz de la Cañada. He built a large grant at La Soledad, north of San Juan Pueblo, and there he reared a large family; he himself became a ledgendry figure as an Indian campaigner. The chapel that he built at La Soledad was mentioned by Father Domínguez in his report of 1777. In 1730, he was made to vacat grant land in Taos Valley that were too close to the Pueblo, and he brought suit against Governor Bustamante for the loss of crops and stock. His complaints, proven false, brought him a fine for perjury and misrepresentation.

The estate of Captain Sebastián Martín was probated in 1772, with the last wills of both parents in evidence. Land in question included those in the Taos Valley, Truchas, and Chamisal; surviving children and grandchildren are also mentioned.

Sebastián's and his wife María's eldest son, Marcial, the executor of his father's will, married Lugarda Medina, who bore him a son, Salvador, April 6, 1726.

Juan Manuel Martín, who married Elena Roybal, with Bernado Roybal and Margarita Martín as sponsors, September 27, 1731, was to all appearances, Margarita's brother, the "Juan" mentioned in the will.

Of the daughters, Margarita had married Juan de Padilla early in the century, and became the wife of Bernardo Roybal in 1731; on the same day, September 26, her younger sister, Angela, married Bernardo's younger brother, Ignacio. The Martíns, two sisters and one brother, married to three Roybals, two brothers and one sister.

Sebstían Martín was born circa 1670 in Santa Cruz de la Cañada. He married María Luján 24 Sep 1691 in El Paso del Norte, New Mexico; she was a ative of la Cañada, and the daughter of Miguel Luján and Elena Ruiz.

Sebastian married María Luján, daughter of Captain Fernando Durán y Chávez and Elena Ruíz Cáceres, on 24 Sep 1691 in Guadalupe del Paso, Nuevo Méjico. Sebastian Martín (21), native of New Mexico, son of Captain Pedro Martín, deceased, and Juana de Arguello living in Socorro del Paso, and María Lujan (17), native of New Mexico, daughter of Miguel Lujan and Elena Ruiz. Witnesses: Don Fernando Durán Chaves (44), living in El Paso, who knew pair since their birth at La Cañada in New Mexico, Francisco Romero (57) of El Paso and Alcalde Ordinario, same testimony. Pair married Sept. 24, 1691, with witnesses Don Fernando de Chaves and Doña Lucia Hurtado.
