John Crosby, son of Richard and Margaret Crosby, was born in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor about 1556, married and had four children by an unidentified first wife. John Crosby married a second time, 31 Aug 1594, Jane Webster and had one son by his second marriage.
John's daughter from his ealier marriage, Margaret, was executrix of his will and she died between 11 Jan 1605, when she proved his will, and 2 Aug 1605, when her "mother" doubtless her step-mother), Jane Crosbie, was given administration on her estate [Harthill Deanery]. On 16 Jan. 1607, warning was made not to give administration on the estate of John Crosbie, late of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, nor on the portion Margarete Crosbie, late of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, not yet adminstered, without first "notefying" Richard Yeoman of said Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, or Mr. Fothergill, his attorney [Harthill Deanery].
Apparently Richard's claim was soon settled for on 13 Feb 1607, guardianship of Robert Crosbie, son of John Crosbie of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, deceased, was given to John Webster (possibly Jane's brother) and on that day administration on the estate of John Crosbie of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, deceased, was given to John Webster and Robert Crosbie, son of the deceased. The inventory of the extate came to less than Ł40 [Harthill Deanery].

His will was dated 29 Oct 1604 and was proved 11 Jan 1605.
"To wife Jane for life the house I live in, she paying a rent of 26s. 8d. yearly to my son Robert Crosby, beginning when he is 21; and he is to have said estate at her death. If wife remarry, she to give security to Robert Millington, to keep estate in repair. If all my children children die s.p., then said estate to the children of Henry Patchett and Rowland Smither. To daughter Margaret, two cows, etc. If wife be with child, it to have two cows. All residue to daughter Margaret, she to be executrix. Witnesses: John Millinton, Robt. Millington."
